At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total of 114,731 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases statewide, an increase of 1,791 new cases. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County increased 9 new cases for a total of 599 positive cases; Luna County increased 18 new cases for a total of 2,118 positive cases; Hidalgo County increased 1 new cases for a total 205 total positive cases; and Catron County remain unchanged with 51 positive cases. Statewide, there are 916 COVID-19 hospitalizations.

The New Mexico Department of Health has announced two new public health emergency orders in response to the added strain on hospitals and health care providers due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first new order will temporarily limit non-essential surgeries effective from today, December 11th through January 4th, 2021. Non-essential surgeries are defined in the order to include procedures that may be delayed without undue risk to the patient’s health. In addition, the new order outlines criteria to be considered in distinguishing between essential and non-essential procedural needs. The second order enacted, relates to crisis care standards and outlines the steps necessary for the credentialing and approval of health care providers responding to the COVID-19 health care crisis.

Applications for the COVID-19 Housing Cost Assistance Program are now available. The funds for housing assistance will be administered by the NM Mortgage Finance Authority. Qualified recipients will receive up to $1,500 per month for up to 3 months to pay past-due rent or mortgage payments in addition to payments on real estate contracts, mobile or manufactured home liens, and the land or lots on which they are located.  Applications will be received until the $15 million in funding is expended.
