At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total of 21,340 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases. In addition, COVID-19 cases locally impacting the area are as follows: Grant County remained at 68 total cases with 22 recovered; Luna County increasing to 238 total cases and 55 recovered; Hidalgo County remaining at 88 total cases with 26 recovered; and Catron County remaining at 4 total cases. Statewide, there are 133 individuals currently hospitalized statewide and 8,685 individuals designated as totally recovered.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Department is requesting the public’s assistance regarding an investigation involving human skeletal remains found within the Tadpole fire zone near Ben Lilly Pond. On June 24th, a U.S. Fire Forest Service Saw Crew had encountered two sets of skeletal remains and multiple objects of personal possessions. According to a release, “the remains are believed to be those of a middle-aged male and female, neither are thought to be New Mexico residents and may have been reported missing persons in 2015 or later. At the current time, it is believed the remains have been in the location since August 2015. The Gila National Forest has reported on a new fire located northwest of McMillan Campground in the Silver City Ranger District. The lightning caused fire started yesterday, August 4th , and at the time of this report is contained to one acre. The fire is in steep and hard to access terrain, but since the area has received over 5 inches of rain, full suppression of the fire and the perimeter is expected today.
Hidalgo Medical Services is offering Free COVID-19 testing for symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals tomorrow, Thursday, August 6th, in Mimbres at the HMS Mobile Health Unit positioned at the Round Up Lodge located at 91 Acklin Hill Road. Individuals can get tested from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., closed 12-12:30 for lunch. The testing is free, and individuals should remember to bring their insurance card if they have one.
