Due to the public health order issues this week by the state of New Mexico, vaccinations are required for the 2021 New Mexico State Fair that begins on September 9th. According to a news release, all persons who are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine must show proof of being fully vaccinated to enter the grounds of the state fair. The policy was put into place to ensure the safety of fair-goers, particularly children under the age of 12 who are not yet eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Individuals falling into the vaccine exemption category (medical, disability, or religious reasons) will need to provide documentation of one the exemptions in addition of providing proof of a negative COVID-19 test from within 48 hours of their entering the fairgrounds.

There will be a 9/11 Memorial Parade in Deming and the public is invited to register to be a part of the event. Interested parties can register at the Deming Visitor Center located at 800 East Pine Street in Deming or call Deming Mainstreet at 575-546-2674.

The Silver City Museum is presenting another part of their series titled “Unpacking Silver City”, a virtual lecture and forum on another theme relevant to local and Southwest New Mexican history. This Saturday, August 21st, historian Stephen Fox, will relate history to the land, “Miners, Ranchers and Environmentalists” How They Perceived and Valued the Land. He will be joined afterward in discussion by a moderator and guest commentators representing community stakeholders. The Santa Clara Action Committee is hosting another “Music in the Park” this Friday, August 20th from 6:30 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. This week’s musical entertainment is provided by DJ Romeo. Vendors and concessions will be on site for the event that is open to people of all ages. Over the summer, several Music in the Park events have been organized and well attended by area residents.
