At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a total of 22,444 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases. In addition, COVID-19 cases locally impacting the area are as follows: Grant County remains at 71 total cases with 28 recovered; Luna County remaining at 254 total cases and an increase of 72 recovered; Hidalgo County remaining at 90 total cases with 33 recovered; and Catron County at 5 total cases. Statewide, it has risen to 127 individuals currently hospitalized and 9,428 individuals designated as totally recovered.
According to the New Mexico Department of Health, the Southwest region situation report as of August 7th shows that individuals in their 20’s have the highest COVID-19 infection rate in the southwest corner of the state totaling 627 individuals, with 232 recoveries and 395 still active cases. In addition, the highest rate of death from COVID-19 in the southwest regions of New Mexico has been individuals in their 70’s with 118 infected cases, 10 deaths, with 49 recoveries and 59 still active cases. The largest increase in cases has been shown to be in the teenage range with 292 infected cases, 115 recoveries, and 177 still active cases.
The Town of Silver City has received a “Clean and Beautiful Grant” for three projects. According to a release, the projects include:
- Youth Mural Program for installation of a tile mural on the restroom building at the Main Street Plaza in cooperation with Silver City MainStreet
- Gila Native Plant Society will create improvements to the Silva Creek Botanical Garden
- Constructavision LLC will build a parklet on the corner of Yankie and Texas Streets
The Town of Silver City was one of thirty-seven communities in the state to receive funding to develop and enhance beautification and recycling initiatives.
