Current drought and local fire conditions have led the Fire Chief and the Town of Silver City to declare “Stage One Fire Restrictions” pursuant to the Town of Silver City Ordinances 18-24 (9). The following restrictions are effective immediately and will remain in effect until conditions improve and will only be lifted by the Fire Chief:
- No building or maintenance of campfires; no open burning of yard waste, tree limbs and weeds
- Only the use of approved UL propane grills with appropriate covers or lids
- Outdoor charcoal or wood burning devices and fire pits for the use of meal preparation must have protective fire screens, a five-foot perimeter clearance, and proper approval from the Silver City Fire Department.
Anyone caught in violation of the order is subject to a fine of not less than $100 nor more than $500 and/or imprisonment of up to 30 days. For additional information, please call 575-538-2591 or view the announcement online at silvercityradio.com
The New Mexico Environmental Department has begun inspections of public pools around the state under the color-coded risk framework. Pools used for recreational activities such as water parks, splash pads, hotels/motels, apartment complexes, or operated by homeowner associations that are not strictly limited to physical therapy or socially distanced exercise, may operate under limited capacities according to their county’s red to turquoise level. Under the Yellow designation, pools may operate at 33 percent capacity. When the county reaches the Green level, the limited capacity raises to 50 percent, and Turquoise to 75 percent.
Catron County is holding their first ever Wildfire Preparedness Fair this Friday April 30th at the Catron County Fair Building and May 1st in Pie Town Park in Pie Town, both from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
