Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has signed an executive order urging New Mexico municipalities and counties to ban the retail sale of fireworks in their communities. According to a news release, the request for additional preventative action comes as numerous wildfires burn throughout New Mexico and severe drought conditions persist across the state. “The executive order follows the implementation of statewide fire restrictions prohibiting fireworks, outdoor smoking, campfires, and open burning for all non-municipal, non-federal and non-tribal lands. According to the United States Drought Monitor, over 70% of New Mexico is experiencing extreme to exceptional drought conditions, with 93% of the state experiencing at least severe drought conditions.”
Silver Consolidated Schools has announced a new principal and assistant principal for Silver High School. Claudia Smith, currently Silver High’s Assistant Principal will now serve as Principal. Daniel Burke, a Silver High graduate and currently from Tularosa Municipal Schools, will take over as Silver High School Assistant principal. In addition, Candice Cruz, currently serving as a teacher and Administrative Intern at La Plata Middle School, will now serve as their new Middle School Principal. Congratulations to the new school administrators!
The 35th Annual Tour of the Gila Bicycle Race continues tomorrow with the Stage 2 Inner Loop Road Race sponsored by Brian & Lynn Robinson and Southwest Bone & Joint Institute. Roads to be used are US 180, NM 15, NM 35, NM 152, and NM 356. Motorists should expect to see racers on the road from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Road closure will be on NM 15 from Bear Creek Cabins in Pinos Altos to the intersection of NM 15 and NM 35 from 7:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.
