A Red Flag warning remained in effect through the weekend as firefighters continued to fight high temperatures and dry winds over the weekend.  On Friday, the Silver Fire had reached 44,000 acres, but over the weekend grew to over 76,000 acres as of this morning.  The fire remains 20% contained.  Most of the growth has been in the northern portion of the fire.

Crews continue mop up efforts around Kingston.  Areas to the south of NM Highway 152 have been switched to monitor status, allowing firefighter resources to shift to the northern portions of the fire.  Crews continue to construct indirect fire line and strengthen containment lines on the western perimeter, as well as scout ahead for other suitable areas to build fire line.

Today, management of the fire will transfer from Matt Reidy’s Northern Arizona Incident Management Team into the hands of John Pierson’s New Mexico Incident Management Team.  Residents in the Mimbres Valley should expect to see and increase in fire personnel today while this change occurs.  Nearly 500 personnel continue to fight the Silver Fire.
