The Gila National Forest is hosting a Forest Plan Revision Open House on September 11th, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 3005 E Camino del Bosque in Silver City. The open house format is a casual opportunity to engage with Forest Service specialists about Forest Plan Revision. Stakeholders can arrive any time, stay for as little or long as they like, and can circulate among Forest Service specialists discussing various resources.
As part of the Cobre Road Haul Project, there are construction activities that may cause traffic delays on Highway 152 on Monday through Friday from September 7th through 29th. These delays are expected to be approximately 30 minutes. Freeport McMoRan apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause the public. Silver City mayor, Ken Ladner, would like to invite the public for input, ideas and inspirations toward making the Town of Silver City even better. This month’s “Monday With The Mayor” will be at the Drifter Pan Cake House located at 711 Silver Heights Blvd, on Monday, September 11th from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. All are welcome to attend.
La Plata Middle School in Silver City, under the helm of new Principal, Louis Alvarez, is implementing plans on raising the New Mexico Public Education Department’s “F” rating of the school this year. Silver Schools Superintendent, Audie Brown is encouraged by staff professionals requesting additional development tools to increase communication and effectiveness in teaching students. The current goal of the district is to attain at least a “B” grade for all schools.
The Silver City Mainstreet Project is working with the Silco Theater to initiate a” volunteer with rewards program”. For every 3 hours of volunteer work donated, the recipient will receive a gift card for a free movie ticket. There are many volunteer opportunities available, including a planter program, beautification of medians and side street areas, facilitation of an historic walking tour, in addition to special events, and other grant funded projects. The Santa Clara Police Department will continue to participate in the 100 Days and Nights of Summer Program throughout the month of September. During the campaign, Officers will be looking for drunken drivers and any traffic violators. Law enforcement will be out at different times adhering to traffic laws, and all roads and highways within the village will be heavily patrolled.
