The Silver City Museum’s new exhibit, “Ghost Town Diaries: Karl Kernberger’s Search for the Light”, will open tomorrow, September 28th, with a special Society Members only preview this evening.

The exhibit will feature photographs from 1959 to 1967 of several Southern New Mexico ghost towns.  Some included scenes will be of towns in the Black Range, Lake Valley, the desert “bootheel” country, and the Mogollon Mountains.  Towns represented will be Hillsboro, Kingston, Chloride, Old Hachita, Shakespeare, Mogollon, Alma, Georgetown, and 1961 Tyrone.

Many of the photographs are original prints captured and developed by Karl Kernberger, and each print tells a story collected from residents.  Stories can also be found in Kernberger and Michael Jenkinson;s book “Ghost Towns of New Mexico. Playthings of the Wind.”
