Here’s a look at todays’ headlines:

 

This week we have continued to cover the New Mexico Department of Education school grading results. We have previously announced Cobre, Silver and Luna County Schools. Today we will share with you some of the results for Hidalgo and Catron County Schools. In Lordsburg, Central Elementary went from a “D” last year to “B” this year, R.V Traylor Elementary remained the same with a “B” grade, Dugan-Tarango Middle School received an “F” in 2016 and raised to a “D” this year and Lordsburg High School remained the same with a score of “C”. In Catron County, Datil Elementary School remained the same with a “B”, Glenwood Elementary received a “C” for 2017 from a “B” last year, Reserve Elementary scored a “C” this year from a “B” in 2016, Quemado Elementary remained the same with a “D” grade, Reserve High School raised form a “B” in 2016 to an “A” for 2017, and Quemado High School remained unchanged this year with an “A” score.

The Gila Regional Medical Center Auxiliary has awarded eleven scholarships, for a total of $22,000, for the academic year 2017-2018 with each recipient receiving $2000. This year’s scholarships have been awarded to the following: Jerrika Lewis, Jasmine Rumero, Star Ann Moon, Delores Escudero, Zachilah Rodriguez, Pamela Marquez, Ariana Garcia, Dana Chairez, Joe Kellerman and Vince Torres. Qualifications for the Auxiliary Scholarship include that the student must be a resident of New Mexico, be currently enrolled in an accredited Nursing Program or in an accredited health-related program and maintain a 2.5 GPA average. Preference is given to residents of the four County area which includes Grant, Luna, Hidalgo and Catron in addition to GRMC caregivers. Other New Mexico students are not excluded and are encouraged to apply.

The New Mexico State Police is asking the public’s assistance in locating Mr. Leland Zane Stovall, a Caucasian male, eighty-three years old, five feet ten inches tall, one hundred and thirty pounds, with grey hair, and green eyes. Mr. Leland Zane Stovall was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with an orange in color logo, and blue jeans, leaving the Butterfield Hotel in Deming. He was driving a 2005 Blue Ford sport utility vehicle, with Texas plates, 3JCVJ around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, August 31st. Mr. Leland Zane Stovall may be en route to Las Vegas, NM or possibly Post, TX, and is believed to be in danger if not located.  Anyone with any information regarding this New Mexico Silver Alert is asked to call the New Mexico State Police at (575) 382-2500 or 911.

Hidalgo Medical Services participated in a recent purchase of food, water, and necessary emergency supplies for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Through the coordination of CEO, Dan Otero and Abby Spann, RN, HMS Clinical Nurse Trainer, the donated items from HMS, and other community members, were collected by a local resident whose hometown is Refugio, Texas. The donated supplies were transported directly to individuals, neighbors and loved ones in Refugio, who suffered the effects of Hurricane Harvey’s landfall.
