Here’s what happening in our community:

Western New Mexico University will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Cornali Field to celebrate the opening of a new fenced area designated for small dogs. The ceremony, co-hosted by the Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce, will take place at 11 a.m. in the WNMU-owned community dog park on West Street. While Cornali Field has historically been undivided, local citizens recognized a need and raised money for a barrier separating little dogs from the large portion of the field where large breeds can run freely. Cornali Field is Silver City’s only fenced-in dog park and is located between Virginia and West streets. The entrance to the newly fenced-in area for smaller dogs faces Virginia St. Cornali Field is open daily from sunrise to sunset and closed only periodically for maintenance by WNMU staff.

Grant County residents came together at the downtown Silver City’s celebration of Dia de los Muertos on Sunday. The event featured performances from local musicians, singers and the kids of Ballet Folkorico de San Vicente, in addition to face painting, a Monsoon Puppet Parade down Market Street and many choices of food and drink. Diane Ingalls Leyba, organized the event to bring together all cultures living in the community. The celebration of Dia de los Muertos focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey.
