Here’s a look at today’s headlines:
The Town of Tyrone sustained road damage when large portions of asphalt were lifted and torn away by storm waters last Saturday morning. It was reported that at least 4 inches of heavy rain fell in a short period of time and that water was seen going over the bridge at the intersection of Malachite and Copper.
The Silver City Women’s Club recently presented a financial donation to El Refugio, Inc. as a part of the clubs’ 2017-18 Community Outreach Program. El Refugio, Inc., operates the Casa Carmel Shelter for battered women and their children, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and serves individuals in both Grant and Hidalgo counties. Temporary shelter is provided for up to 90 days with 30 day reviews. Safety and security are provided along with case management services and educational programs.
Hidalgo Medical Services, and Jill Steidl, an HMS Certified Physician Assistant, will be donating the meat from their recent purchase at the Grant County Fair Junior Livestock Sale to the Gila Valley Mobile Food Pantry. HMS and Steidl, have been buyers together at the livestock sale for more than 10 years in an effort to help feed the community. This year they purchased a 150-lb lamb and the meat will be processed and donated to the mobile food pantry. The Gila Valley Mobile Food Pantry is a program of The Volunteer Center of Grant County and distributes over 7500 pounds of food to 100 families monthly.
The theme of the 27th Annual Lighted Christmas Parade is “A Hometown Holiday..Past, Present, Future.” Members of the community are encouraged to sign up early and start planning their floats for the Lighted Christmas Parade that will be held on Saturday, November 25th, 2017 at 7 pm. The annual community event is sponsored by Silver City MainStreet and the Town of Silver City. The deadline for applications is Saturday, November 11th. For more information, call at 575-534-1700.
