Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

Employees of Hidalgo Medical Services provided sponsorship and volunteered their time by offering free health screenings to the Hidalgo County community during in this year’s “Discover Hidalgo” event in Lordsburg. Several free health screenings and informational community resources were provided by HMS Family Medicine Residency Program physicians, Medical Services staff, Dental Services employees, Mental Health Services team members, and Family Support Services employees.

The Federal Highway Administration ‐ Central Federal Lands Highway Division, in coordination with the New Mexico Department of Transportation and the U.S. Forest Service, will be hosting a series of public meetings in early November 2017 for the New Mexico State Route 152 Bridge Replacement Project. Implementation of the project will address the structural and functional inadequacy of the two existing bridges, which have conditions ratings of “poor” or less. The meeting in Silver City will be held on Wednesday, November the 8th at 5:00 p.m. at the Silver City Grant County Veteran’s Memorial and Conference Center, located at 3031 Hwy 180 East.

The Cobre School District has announced it will begin charging a fee for usage of school facilities during weekend. Use of the gymnasiums during the week will not be charged the proposed $18 an hour fee, but tournaments held on the weekend will be charged. The fee is being instituted to cover the cost of an on duty custodian and utility usage.

Western New Mexico University is hosting eight students for a five-week student exchange from the National University of the Northeast (UNNE) from Corrientes, Argentina. The program is being financially supported by UNNE and the United States Embassy in Argentina. Each student will be matched with a WNMU professor in the department most closely related to their field of study at UNNE, in addition to auditing classes that are pertinent to individual career goals. The students will be residing at WNMU through November the 17th.
