Grant County has officially launched their new website that presents a more modern look in addition to the ability to easily download frequently used forms from County Departments and offices of elected officials. The current county website, grant countynm.com will remain available October 31st, at which time will be discontinued. The new site also features a YouTube link dedicated to showing County Commission meetings and other events. Citizens are encouraged to report any items on the new website that may need to be reviewed to the Grant County Manager’s office by calling 575-574-0006. The new website can be found at grantcountynm.gov.
Former Grant County resident, Billie Behrens, recently received the highest award given to a Beta Sigma Phi member, The International Award of Distinction. She has held all chapter offices, chaired many committees and has progressed through all the Beta Sigma degrees. In addition, Ms. Behrens helped organize the re-lighting of the Christmas tree in Gough Park, assisted with the Cancer Relay for Life project, and she also co-chaired the 2008 New Mexico State Convention of Beta Sigma Phi which was held in Silver City. Beta Sigma Phi International is a non-academic sorority with 200,000 members in chapters around the world.
Last Thursday, the City of Deming natural gas staff conducted a periodic testing of natural gas throughout the system that resulted in 63 calls from residents and commercial facilities. According to federal guidelines, “mercaptan” was injected in the system as an odorant that will alert people to gas leaks being present. According to the Deming Headlight, Of the city’s 5,832 meters, there were 63 calls, which is just over one percent (1%) of the city’s customers. The gas department responded to every call and addressed any leak issues.
In a released issued by the Grant County Commission, the Grant County Board of Commission Chairman, Chris M. Ponce, has cancelled the scheduled Special Meeting, Tuesday, October 8th, at 9:00 a.m., regarding supporting efforts to reverse court-ordered injunction ceasing timber management actions in Region 3 Forests. Chairman Chris Ponce stated, “at this time, we are monitoring the progress and a Special Meeting maybe scheduled in the future, pending the development.”
