Here’s a look at today’s headlines:
The Deming Police Department hosted a “Cram the Cruiser” event at the Deming Walmart store today that will benefit “Healing House”, a Luna County domestic violence shelter. Two police cruisers were parked on location ready to be filled with donations of needed items that included hygiene products, family board games, clothing, diapers, and other necessary goods. The Healing House provides and offers comprehensive support and intervention services to persons affected by domestic violence.
The New Mexico State Police has reported that a Mimbres resident was involved in a fatal rollover crash on State Road 152 around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. The victim, identified as Donald Heath, was traveling towards Mimbres when the accident occurred. Further investigation of the accident is pending.
During the recent Town of Hurley Regular Meeting, The Hurley Pride Committee reported that the local “Pumpkin Patch” event attracted over 400 people this year, which was greatly attended by young families. Next month by Thanksgiving, the Hurley Pride committee will begin decorating for Christmas and will coordinate the work with the town to hang lights and decorations.
The Desert Springs Gila Monster Gran Fondo was held this past Saturday, with cyclists riding 115, 78, and 40-mile courses and was deemed a huge success! Cyclists in the 115 mile ride, covered the iconic “Gila Monster” route that is the same as the last day’s ride of the spring “Tour of the Gila”. Along with the ride, day activities at Gough Park included “Pedalista”, which was a “Celebration of the Bicycle” event held as fundraiser for The Bike Works.
