Here’s a look at today’s headlines:
The Silver City Town Council at a recent meeting heard about a number of issues. On the agenda for the meeting was the announcement of the new Highway 90 bridge naming approved as the Veterans Memorial Bridge and the naming of the Visitor Center access area to The Downtown and Silver City Greenways Trailhead. The Council also heard comments about the maintenance of the golf course and the amount of noise being created by sirens.
The Cobre School Board met on Monday. A large number of students from the pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, fourth and fifth grade classes mad a presentation for the Board. The students showed the board their uses of sign language, English, Spanish and German.
New Mexico State Police Officers were dispatched to mile marker 1 on State Road 92 near Virden in reference to a pedestrian that was struck by a motor vehicle. The preliminary investigation revealed that a westbound vehicle drifted off the roadway and struck the 84 year-old Virden resident, who was standing by the side of the roadway. The man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The New Mexico Department of Health is reminding New Mexicans that flu season is around the corner and is urging everyone six months and older to get vaccinated.
