The Gaffney-Oglesby Marine Corps League Detachment 1328 presented a new POW-MIA flag to the Fort Bayard Medical Center on Thursday morning to replace an old, tattered flag.
Also on Thursday, a dedication was held at Bataan Memorial Park for the Blue Star Memorial Plaque installation. Blue Star Memorial Markers are used in National Cemeteries, parks, veterans facilities, and gardens to pay tribute to the U.S. armed forces.
The Silver School Board met in closed session to discuss screening the applications in the process of searching for a new superintendent. Of the ten applications received, six were selected for further review and background checks.
The Silver City Police Department has completed its investigation into a vehicle/pedestrian crash that occurred on September 20th. The District Attorney’s Office indicated there was no evidence supporting charges being filed against the driver of the motor vehicle.
In sports action, the Western New Mexico University Mustangs lost in a close 44-41 game against Tarleton State University in Lone Star Conference action on Saturday. WNMU is now 2-4 in the season and 2-3 in Lone Star Conference play. The Mustangs play again this Saturday against Texas A&M University-Commerce.
WNMU volleyball took a 3-0 sweep over Texas Women’s University on Friday. On Saturday, the Lady ‘Stangs earned another 3-0 sweep over Texas A&M-Commerce. The Lady ‘Stangs return to action on Friday against Angelo State University and Saturday against Tarleton State University.
