The National Center for Frontier Communities has honored Chris DeBolt, of San Lorenzo for being the 2019 NCFC Frontier Health Star. According to a news release, DeBolt has called San Lorenzo home for more than 12 years. There she has been an advocate for her neighbors’ health and wellness by bringing services to the small community that otherwise not have access to them. Over the last 13 years, Debolt has been part of the Mimbres Valley Health Action League, a grassroots community group which advocates for the 1,612 people that call the Mimbres Valley home. One of the major successes of the League is the annual Mimbres Valley Health Fair that has been occurring for 13 years in partnership the Harvest Valley Festival every September. Congratulations, Chris DeBolt.
In Deming, the Mimbres Memorial Hospital Auxilliary has donated $10,000 to the Deming Senior Citizen’s Center located at 800 South Granite Street. A recent news release stated that the funds will be utilized to purchase a minivan for the center equipped with a wheelchair ramp. The Deming Luna County Commission on Aging manages the Deming Senior Center and the Deming Luna County Adult Day Care Facility. The Deming Luna County Commission on Aging is a non-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors and Executive Director, Julie Bolton. Their mission is to promote independence, preserve dignity, and enhance life quality for a diverse population of older adults and people with disabilities. Their purpose is to provide services and programs to the elderly, 60 years of age and older living in the City of Deming, Village of Columbus and Luna County.
This Sunday, W & N Enterprises will be holding their 16th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner titled as “A Time for Sharing. The community is invited for this free Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings starting at 12 Noon at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business & Conference Center. It was reported that over 2000 people attended the event last year that also features a visit from Santa and live music. Many volunteers from throughout the community come and help cook and serve the food to many guests that attend.
