Here’s a look at today’s headlines:

In sports action, the Number 26 WNMU men’s golf team fell just one stroke short of moving on to Nationals.  Senior All-American Calum Hill earned a low score which put him in a tie with two other golfers to take the second and final individual qualifying spot to Nationals.  After a playoff between the three golfers, Hill took the win to enter NCAA Nationals play.

The IRS recognizes Small Business Week May 1st through the 7th by highlighting some of its most popular educational products, videos and webinars to help your small business thrive.  If you are a self-employed landscaper or gardener, be sure to view the IRS webinar “Business Taxes for the Self-Employed: The Basics.”  Some topics included in the webinar or on IRS.gov include the Accounting Method, Business Taxes, Tax Forms, Allowable Deductions, and Business Use of a Vehicle.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced the enrollment of more than 800,000 acres in the Conservation Reserve Program, or CRP.  Through CRP, the US Department of Agriculture helps farmers offset the costs of restoring, enhancing and protecting certain grasses, shrubs and trees that improve water quality, prevent soil erosion and strengthen wildlife habitat.  Farmers’ and ranchers’ participation in CRP continues to provide numerous benefits to our nation, including helping reduced emissions of harmful greenhouse gases and providing resiliency to future weather changes.
