Here’s a look at today’s news:

Next Tuesday, March 26th, Western New Mexico University’s President Dr. Joseph Shepard, and other area officials will be holding an official ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of the College Ave. beautification project, a joint infrastructure improvement undertaking between Western New Mexico University and the Town of Silver City. Following the ceremony, those attending the event will visit the newly opened Einstein’s Bros. Bagels for an official kick-off and tour with refreshments provided by Einstein Bros. Bagels. The event begins at 11:00 A.M. at College Avenue and D Street.

The U.S. Postal Service is celebrating “post office lobby government commissioned artworks” from the 1930’s and 40’s by featuring lobby paintings on postage stamps. The Deming Post Office mural titled “Mountains and Yucca” was one of the five murals chosen for this honor. During the Franklin D. Roosevelt presidency, artwork was commissioned across the country as part of the implemented “New Deal” to put Americans back to work. The Post Office Murals stamps are being issued as “forever stamps” and will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price.

Belinda Delgado, of Silver City has been inducted to the UPS driver “Circle of Honor.” The Circle of Honor is an honorary organization comprised of elite UPS drivers named worldwide. The honor is achieved through 25 years or more of accident free driving. According to a release, New Mexico boasts 50 Circle of Honor drivers with a combined 1,419 years of accident-free driving. Congratulations, Belinda Delgado!

The Deming Public School District has created an online survey for residents to provide input regarding the district’s budget for the upcoming school year. School officials are encouraging the public to complete the survey that will help the district to serve the students, teachers, staff and community. Anyone interested on completing the survey can log on at www.surveymonkey.com/DemingPublicSchoolsBudgetInput2020.  The last day to complete the survey is Monday, April 15th.

The Gila National Forest, Reserve Ranger District is temporarily closing the Willow Creek Campground. This campground is located 55 miles southeast of Reserve via FR 141. The district ranger has implemented a temporary closure for the safety of all visitors due to flooding.
