The City of Bayard is advancing its efforts to preserve an important part of the nation’s labor history through the restoration of the Mine Mill Local 890 Union Hall in the Mining District. Supported by a $50,000 Destination Forward Grant from the New Mexico Tourism Department, the city has developed a comprehensive master plan that addresses project development, feasibility, interpretive strategies, visitor experience, architectural design, and budget considerations. The Union Hall is a central component of the Five Points Initiative, a regional project designed to connect five historic sites in Grant County, including the Silver City Waterworks building, Whiskey Creek Zócalo, the Bradley Hotel, and the Hurley train station.
Silver Consolidated Schools Superintendent will host two upcoming Community Gatherings to engage the public in discussions about the future of Sixth Street and Jose Barrios schools. The first meeting will take place on September 4, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Sixth Street, followed by a second meeting on September 8, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Jose Barrios. Each gathering will focus on exploring ways to preserve the legacy of these schools through tributes and memorials, discussing opportunities for community involvement in honoring their lasting impact, and sharing ideas for potential community-aligned uses of the properties.
The City of Deming has commenced construction at the intersection of Gold Avenue and Spruce Street as part of the Gold Avenue Construction Project. The project will include the installation of new traffic signals designed to enhance safety and improve traffic flow at the intersection. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and consider alternate routes when possible. Construction is expected to continue for approximately three months.
