The Gila National Forest’s Glenwood Ranger District plans to burn the Sheridan Slash Disposal site, located off Sheridan Ridge Road (Catron County Road 54), between September 16th and October 11th, depending on weather and fire conditions. This site, which is used exclusively for disposing of vegetative materials, is typically burned once a year by the district’s firefighter crews. While smoke may be visible along US Hwy 180 and could linger at night or in the early morning, it is expected to diminish significantly as daytime weather improves. The burning supports local fuel reduction efforts and Catron County’s Firewise program.
