The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Las Cruces District is preparing to implement a 150-acre prescribed burn between September 22 and October 31, pending favorable conditions, to reduce hazardous fuels near the community of Pinos Altos. This effort is part of a series of projects aimed at minimizing the risk of wildfire impacts to wildlife habitat, recreation areas, and adjacent private property. The BLM emphasizes the importance of public awareness, particularly for individuals sensitive to smoke and those participating in outdoor activities on public lands. The specific ignition date will be determined by weather conditions, fuel moisture, and firefighter resource availability.
