At the camp, these students participated in activities aimed at developing their leadership skills, teamwork, and personal growth. Their presentations showcased the positive effects of the camp, including increased confidence, enhanced leadership abilities, and a strengthened motivation to contribute to their community. The experience emphasized the Rotary Club’s commitment to nurturing young leaders and making a lasting impact.

The New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (NMDCA), New Mexico Arts (NMA), and the New Mexico Arts Commission (NMAC) are proud to honor the seven artists and contributors who received the “2024 Governor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts”, each representing the rich culture and diversity of New Mexico. Among the distinguished honorees is Silver City’s Diana Ingalls Leyba, a mixed-media artist, gallery owner, and founder/director of the Youth Mural Program (YMP). Over the past 21 years, YMP has collaborated with at-risk youth to create murals that educate students about their communities’ history and culture. To date, the program has completed more than 85 projects, engaging several thousand young people in the process. Congratulations to Mrs. Leyba.

September marks PNM’s annual “Copper Theft Awareness Month”, dedicated to educating and warning customers about the risks of copper theft and prevention strategies. Throughout the month, PNM will inform both residential and business customers on how to recognize copper theft, what actions to take if they fall victim, and how to report and prevent such crimes. Given copper’s high market value and its use in electrical wiring, it has become a prime target for thieves, leading to potential power outages, costly repairs, and safety hazards. To date, PNM has received 92 reports of copper theft affecting business customers; those who suspect theft are urged to call PNM at 888-342-5766 for immediate assistance.
