The City of Deming has announced its contract with Year out Energy for a Gas Meter Evaluation Project. Beginning next month, Year out Energy, along with subcontractor ENVOCORE, will conduct gas meter inspections throughout the city. The city requests that residents ensure alleyways are clear of obstructions, such as weeds, to allow for easy access to gas meters. The inspections are expected to last between three to four months. The Silver City Fire Department will be hosting “National Fire Prevention Week” from October 14th to 18th, with this year’s theme being “Smoke Alarms—Make Them Work For You.” During the week, the department will offer tours of both stations, firefighter demonstrations, home fire escape plans, and a walk-through of their fire engine, along with goodie bags for attendees to take home. The Gila National Forest reminds visitors that camping for more than 14 days within a consecutive 30-day period is prohibited to ensure public health and safety and to protect natural resources. This regulation applies to all National Forest Service (NFS) lands within the Gila National Forest, including those designated as Apache National Forest in New Mexico. The prohibition aims to mitigate the environmental impact of extended camping stays. This order will remain in effect until May 2025.
