The Town of Silver City Trails and Open Space Advisory Committee has organized a Toss No Mas clean-up at the San Vicente Creek Trailhead, located at the US HWY 90 S Bridge off Mill Street, for tomorrow, October 31st from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Participants are encouraged to gather at the San Vicente Creek Trailhead kiosk. The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Program has announced the awards for the 2024-2025 grant cycle, totaling $162,700. This funding includes $20,000 allocated to Region II Emergency Medical Services, Inc. for the distribution of newly developed public safety media campaigns aimed at reducing preventable pediatric traumatic brain injuries among young OHV operators in Doña Ana, Grant, Hidalgo, Luna, and Sierra counties. Additionally, grant awards include $11,000 for OHV law enforcement overtime patrols to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office and $10,000 to the Deming Police Department.
Deming Public Schools is organizing a “Winter Coat Drive” to gather coats for those in need as temperatures begin to drop this fall. The initiative aims to collect both new and gently used coats, hats, and gloves to support less fortunate children and adults in the community. Donations can be dropped off at Red Mountain Middle School, with collections being accepted until November 8th. The New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA) has appointed Les Owen as its new Deputy Director/Secretary. Mr. Owen returns to NMDA, where he previously focused on natural resources policy planning, after serving for eight years as the Conservation Services Division Director at the Colorado Department of Agriculture. Throughout his career, he has committed much of his professional life to promoting effective agricultural land use and range management, energy development, soil and water conservation, wildlife habitat and endangered species conservation, as well as managing natural resources to support agriculture through communication, coordination, and collaboration with federal, state, and local government agencies and organizations.
