The Sixth Judicial District Pro Bono Committee and the Volunteer Attorney Program of New Mexico Legal Aid will be hosting a “Free Legal Fair ” on Friday, October 20th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00p.m. at the WNMU Global Resource Center ABC Room. This event will offer free in-person consultations with seasoned attorneys who will cover a wide array of law aspects, including Divorce and Spousal Support, Custody, Visitation and Child Support, Landlord/Tenant Disputes, Paternity and Kinship Guardianship and more. Also, interpreters will be available on-site to ensure that language is no barrier to obtaining the guidance and advice needed.
This year’s Southwestern New Mexico State Fair junior livestock sale drew 46 entries and ultimately brought in auction sales of $213, 075 per data from the organizers. Young members of Luna County 4-H and Deming’s Future Farmers of America presented livestock they had raised throughout the year and proceeds from the sales went directly to the youth. The highest bid went to Adalynn Nuun for her 260 pound Class 5 cross hog, sold to Tony Diaz Farms for $9,000.
Literacy Link-Leamos in Silver City recently received a $10,000 thousand dollar grant from Freeport McMoran to help with both their free book delivery project and with the free tutoring they provide to Grant County residents. The grant will also be used to fund a little free library that will be placed in the Bayard Public Library’s park which is set to be open sometime next Spring.
The City of Lordsburg will be conducting a free large trash pickup day on Friday, October 20th. The maintenance crew will be going around and picking up any large items or items that are not allowed to go in the dumpsters. If you have items you are wanting the maintenance crew to come pick up, contact Lordsburg City Hall no later than tomorrow, October 19th at 5:00p.m.

The New Mexico Veterans Business Outreach Center, which is the business development division of the New Mexico Department of Veteran Services, will be hosting a two-day conference event for military veterans, National Guard/Reserve members, active-duty service members, and federal contractors anywhere in the Southwest who are interested in starting or growing their own business. The conference will provide valuable resources, business connections, and insightful testimonials to veterans who want to learn ways to expand or create their business through federal contracts. The conference will take place October 31st and November 1st at the New Mexico State University Student Union Building in Las Cruces.
