At its recent meeting, the Silver City Town Council approved a 12 percent increase in sanitation fees in response to rising Gross Receipts Tax revenue and associated costs. Councilors also approved a comprehensive update to the town’s Land Use Code, marking the first revision in 15 years to the ordinances governing residential and commercial development. As part of the update, the council introduced an amendment to remove cannabis-related activities—including retail, testing, manufacturing, and production—as permitted uses within Silver City’s Commercial Historic District.

The City of Deming is actively addressing the issue of discolored water affecting local residents and businesses. The discoloration was caused by a mechanical failure within a component of the water distribution system, which allowed sand to enter the supply. Despite the discoloration, the water remains safe for use. The City advises residents and businesses experiencing this issue to run their water lines for several minutes to help clear the water. If the problem persists, individuals are encouraged to report their address to Deming City Hall for further assistance.
