Western New Mexico University is pleased to announce the return of its Kinesiology Kids Bike Club for the spring season. The club will be held every Monday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. through April 28th at Regents Square, located in front of the Mustang Fountain. The program is designed for children aged 2 to 10 years and is offered free of charge. Participants are encouraged to bring their bicycles, helmets, water, and snacks to each session.
Cobre High School student Taylor McWhorter took center stage in hosting the week-long “I Promise to Be Drug-Free Campaign!” at Bayard Elementary School. Taylor guided students through crucial lessons on resisting peer pressure, understanding the risks of underage drinking, and making smart choices to avoid substance misuse. The program’s impact was successful, with participating students boosting their knowledge by an impressive 25 percent.
The Silver City Watershed Keepers will be having a guided walk of the San Vicente Creek in celebration of “World Water Day” on March 22nd from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the urban watershed, view native plants and wildlife and learn about the importance of water in the region. Last week, Animas 8th grade students visited Western New Mexico University to participate in the National History Day (NHD) competition, marking their first involvement in several years. The students showcased their projects with distinction, highlighted by Rory (RJ) McClain’s impressive second-place finish in the individual exhibit category, Tayler Smedley’s third-place achievement, and John Kuenstler’s Honorable Mention recognition. Building on their success, the students will advance to the State Competition in Albuquerque next month, to demonstrate their dedication and hard work.
