Silver City Pick It Up – Toss No Mas would like to extend their gratitude to the dedicated volunteers who participated in the July cleanup event. This month’s initiative emphasized sharing practical tips for reducing and addressing plastic litter within the community. A total of nineteen volunteers generously contributed their time and effort, successfully removing approximately 300 pounds of litter and debris from key locations, including San Vicente Creek, 32nd Street near Highway 15, Snake Hill, and 12th Street.
Luna County officials have announced the availability of sandbags to support residents affected by recent flooding, particularly in low-lying areas throughout the county. Sandbags can be picked up at 2500 J Street in the Industrial Park, Monday through Thursday, from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The office is closed on Fridays and weekends. The Southwest New Mexico Community Forestry Project is seeking public input on its initiative to plant trees and provide technical support to community partners across the region. Over the next five years, the project will focus on enhancing tree canopies in Silver City, Santa Clara, Hurley, Bayard, Deming, and Lordsburg by offering planning, logistical coordination, and planting assistance aimed at improving the overall health of community trees.
