Last in our News is an update on the Turkeyfeather and Goose Fire:
As of this morning, July 16, the Turkeyfeather Wildfire remains 19% contained. The Gila Las Cruces Zone Type 3 Team officially assumed command of the incident at 6:00 p.m. on July 15. In recent days, the fire has shown growth on its northwest flank, advancing toward the Willow Creek subdivision. Fire crews are actively monitoring this area to determine whether firing operations will be necessary and are continuing to implement protective measures to safeguard the community. Additional resources have been requested to support ongoing efforts.
The Goose Fire remains at 0% containment. Hotshot crews are returning to the southeast corner today to assess and prepare control lines as conditions permit, with a dozer being deployed to improve access to the fire perimeter. Thunderstorms and lightning are once again forecast over the fire area, potentially impacting operations. Additional engines are on standby to respond to any new fire starts caused by increased lightning activity.
