The New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission recently approved a request from Bayard to allocate $1.3 million for the development of a well and transmission line. This funding is part of the resources designated for southwest New Mexico water projects under the 2004 Arizona Water Settlements Act. The funds will be used to refurbish a well donated to Santa Clara by Freeport, along with 250 acre-feet of water rights, and connect the well to an existing distribution line serving the village. The project is expected to benefit the broader Grant County regional water initiative, which aims to enhance the water supply and infrastructure for the four municipalities and water associations located in the center of the county.

The Youth Substance Awareness and Prevention Coalition, in collaboration with New Mexico Prevention Partners, law enforcement agencies, and the New Mexico National Guard, recently hosted a “Substance and Mental Health Awareness” event at Cobre High School. During the event, students were provided with education and resources on various topics, including substance misuse, the risks of underage drinking, opioid overdose prevention, the dangers of drinking and driving, and overall mental and physical health. Additionally, the event covered important subjects such as dental care, birth control, sexual assault prevention, domestic and teen dating violence education, LGBTQ+ support, and available mental health services in the community.
