Silver City’s Pick It Up Toss No Mas delivered another standout year, making a visible impact across Grant County. In 2025, the program had more than 150 volunteers and over 17 organizations, who collectively removed more than 7,570 pounds of litter from public spaces throughout the community. The strong turnout and measurable results highlight the program’s growing momentum and the community’s shared commitment to keeping Silver City and Grant County clean and beautiful. Thank you to all the community members who volunteered their time.

The New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD), in partnership with the New Mexico Border Authority (NMBA), is increasing the state’s investment in border planning and infrastructure development through an additional $4.2 million in funding. This expanded allocation will allow the state to advance more than ten previously stalled border initiatives, including feasibility studies and planning efforts for ports of entry, transportation corridors, utilities, and site readiness. Funded projects include improvements to Columbus’s wastewater pond and water tank, construction of flood control berms in Columbus, and critical road and drainage upgrades in Hidalgo County.

The City of Deming will conduct road improvements at the intersection of Buckeye Street and Gold Avenue beginning immediately and continuing through January 9. Construction is expected to last approximately two weeks and will result in traffic delays and detours throughout the project duration. Motorists are advised to exercise caution in the area to ensure the safety of construction crews. Also, construction schedules are subject to change without notice due to inclement weather.
