New Mexico Wild and the Center for Biological Diversity will host a public discussion on the future of the Mexican gray wolf, featuring conservation expert Michael Robinson. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 7, from 6:45 to 8:00 p.m. at the Silco Theatre in Silver City. Doors will close at 6:55 p.m., and the discussion will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. This event is free of charge and open to the public.
The Silver City Fire Department recently recognized Firefighters Elizabeth Barber and Brian Erickson for successfully completing their one-year probationary period. Throughout the past year, both firefighters have demonstrated commitment and perseverance, completing rigorous training that included Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, Firefighter I and II certification courses, and Emergency Medical Technician training at the basic level. Their preparation also encompassed emergency vehicle operations and wildland firefighting. Congratulations to both firefighters.
The Florida 4-H Club has launched its annual donation drive in support of the Deming Luna County Humane Society, aiming to assist local animals in need. The drive, now underway, seeks community contributions of essential items that directly benefit cats and dogs in the shelter’s care. Requested donations include dog and cat food, soft blankets, laundry detergent, and cat litter. Items can be dropped off at the Luna County Extension Office during regular business hours. The collection effort will continue through Monday, September 8.
