Silver Consolidated Schools is excited to announce the exceptional achievements of four of their students for their dedication and academic excellence. Student Maxwell Johnson earned both the National Hispanic Recognition and the National Rural and Small Town Recognition Program. Georgia Martinez achieved the National Hispanic Recognition, and Areena  Rogers received the National Rural and Small Town Recognition. Silver High Junior Keanu Wilson earned multiple honors, including the National African American Recognition, National Hispanic Recognition, and National Rural and Small Town Recognition. These students have shown remarkable commitment by maintaining a B+ GPA or higher and excelling among the top 10 percent in New Mexico on their PSAT exams. Congratulations to all four students!

The Silver City Food Co-op donated the proceeds from their August “Round Up” program to the Gila Resources Information Project (GRIP). GRIP, is a local environmental organization dedicated to promoting the health of both the natural environment and the community, will direct these funds towards enhancing their volunteer initiatives. Specifically, the support will aid in the preservation and improvement of Big Ditch Park and San Vicente Creek.

The Luna County Strengthening Families Program is now accepting applications for families with youth ages 6 to 18. This free 12-week program is designed to strengthen family bonds, enhance parenting skills, and support youth development while fostering community leadership. The program also aims to build resilience in youth by improving self-image, positive relationships, communication, leadership, and emotional stability. In other News: The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness in Undergraduate Program (GEAR UP) has partnered with the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions to enhance the quality of comprehensive and personalized college and career advising for high school students. As a federally funded initiative within the New Mexico Higher Education Department, GEAR UP supports middle and high school students in preparing for higher education and careers. The program offers a range of services, including college visits, SAT preparation, tutoring, and student-centered events. GEAR UP aims to increase post-secondary enrollment, improve access to state colleges and universities, and foster a college-oriented culture within the community.
