The Gila National Forest’s Reserve Ranger District will temporarily close approximately 4.5 miles of Forest Road 141 (Reserve Beaverhead Road) this summer to facilitate the removal and replacement of the South Fork Negrito Creek bridge, located just east of South Fork Campground. The closure will begin on May 5 and will extend from the intersection of Forest Road 503 to the intersection with Forest Road 165/4044A . South Fork Campground will also be closed for the duration of the project. A forest closure order will be in effect through October 31, unless rescinded earlier.
Deming Public Schools is in the process of developing its budget for Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) and is seeking input from the community to help guide this important planning effort. Wreaths Across America (WAA) at Fort Bayard National Cemetery has been recognized as the #1 wreath sponsorship site in New Mexico for 2024. This achievement reflects the dedication and efforts of the local WAA 2024 Crew, as well as the support from the community. A total of 4,908 wreaths were placed on veterans’ markers at Fort Bayard, marking the sixth consecutive year that every veteran at the cemetery has been honored with a wreath. Following a successful month-long sponsorship campaign in January and exposure at the WAA Mobile Education Exhibit, the local sponsorship drive is scheduled to resume in October in preparation for this year’s wreath placement.
