Heart of the Gila, in partnership with Sierra Club Service Project volunteers from across the country, recently dedicated their time and effort to preserving and maintaining the natural beauty of the Gila Wilderness. Over the course of the project, volunteers completed two miles of trail work and maintenance along the popular Middle Fork of the Gila Trail, as well as an additional mile of trail improvements, re-routes, and invasive species removal on the West Fork of the Gila River Trail #724. Their collective efforts help ensure these trails remain accessible and sustainable for outdoor enthusiasts.

The City of Deming will commence construction at the intersection of Gold Avenue and Pine Street on October 27 as part of the Gold Avenue Construction Project. This project involves the installation of new traffic signals designed to enhance safety and improve traffic flow through the intersection. The construction work is anticipated to continue for approximately two months.

The Emergency Warming Center operates from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and is located at 215 W. College Avenue.

In New Mexico News:

Beginning November 1, new federal requirements will alter how energy assistance is factored into the determination of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for more than 32,000 New Mexicans. Mandated under federal law H.R.1, the change affects the way energy assistance payments are applied during SNAP eligibility evaluations. As a result, some individuals and families may lose the standard home heating and cooling cost deduction, potentially leading to reduced monthly SNAP benefit amounts. For more information, residents are encouraged to contact their local Health Care Authority field office or visit website for more information.
