New Mexico State Legislators from the Health and Human Services Committee recently gathered in Grant County to discuss a range of healthcare-related topics. Their objective was to hear reports from various New Mexico State Departments and providers in order to identify opportunities for improvement within the healthcare system.
The Cliff National Honor Society proudly celebrated the induction of seven outstanding new members: Malcolm Ullery II, Norah Bratcher, Kaylee Summers, Jasper Allsup, Rylee Gonzales, Emmalyn Allsup, and Shea Barentine. This exciting event brings the total to thirteen remarkable Cowboys and Cowgirls dedicated to excellence and achievement. These students embody the highest standards of scholarship, leadership, service, and character, showcasing their commitment to making a positive impact. During the Silver City Town Council meeting, the Gila Resource Information Project (GRIP) presented the Rural Southwest New Mexico Urban Forestry Project. This five-year initiative has received $5 million in funding from the USDA Forest Service, which has been awarded to Western New Mexico University. The project encompasses three main components: The development of a new certificate program in urban forestry and arboriculture at the university, the establishment of an arboretum that will serve as a venue for events and a learning environment, and the creation of a community forestry network involving six communities—Bayard, Santa Clara, Hurley, Lordsburg, Deming, and Silver City—each with plans to enhance their tree canopy. This initiative will facilitate the planting of 1,000 trees in each of the six communities.

Luna County, in collaboration with the LC Suicide Prevention Task Force, invites the public to attend a special screening of the film “My Ascension,” aimed at spreading hope and combating suicide. The event will take place on October 3rd at 5:30 p.m. at the Starmax Movie Theater. Attendees will enjoy complimentary popcorn and drinks, as well as access to valuable resources. This important gathering seeks to raise awareness regarding suicide and to help foster a supportive community.
