As a reminder, a candidate forum will take place this evening, October 14, offering Grant County residents an opportunity to hear directly from the individuals seeking to represent them in local office. This event will feature the Silver City District 4 candidates and will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Western New Mexico University’s Besse-Forward Global Resource Center. Community members are encouraged to attend in person to engage with the candidates and learn more about their platforms. 

The Gila National Forest has announced the reopening of Forest Road 141, a key access route to much of the Reserve Ranger District and the northern boundary of the Gila Wilderness. This reopening follows the successful removal and reconstruction of the South Fork Negrito Creek Bridge, restoring safe and convenient public travel through the area. The completion of this project marks an important step in improving infrastructure and accessibility within the forest.

The Bayard City Council will hold its Regular Meeting on October 15 at 4:30 p.m. at Bayard City Hall to address a range of agenda items. Key topics include discussion and possible action on Stantec Task Order #4 regarding the 2024 Colonias Chlorination System Improvements, as well as consideration of Resolution No. 19-2025, ratifying an agreement between the City of Bayard and the Southwest New Mexico Council of Governments. The meeting will also feature reports from the Mayor and Councilors and provide an opportunity for public input.
