Luna County has announced its participation in “Operation Green Light”, which reflects its commitment to supporting veterans, particularly during Veterans Day. This nationwide initiative, which takes place November 4th to November 11th, encourages government buildings, businesses, and residents to display green lights as a means of honoring and visibly supporting veterans, especially those who may struggle with the transition to civilian life. The New Mexico Department of Transportation District One is pleased to announce that the $41 million construction project is set to begin in Silver City on US 180 next week. This project involves widening US 180 from a two-lane to a four-lane roadway. Starting Monday, November 11th drivers can expect daytime lane closures in both the eastbound and westbound lanes as necessary. The contractor will first work on the area of the railroad track, followed by the westbound lanes, and then the eastbound lanes. The reconstruction project is anticipated to take just over a year to complete, depending on weather conditions.
