Silver Consolidated Schools has announced Jody D. Alexander as the new principal of Silver High School. Ms. Alexander has over two decades of experience in education, including serving as the Principal at Navajo Middle School, where she was instrumental in the many improvements in student engagement and academic outcomes. Throughout her career, Ms. Alexander has demonstrated a profound commitment to enhancing educational systems including developing professional development programs tailored to site needs, raising academic achievement through strategic initiatives and helped foster a culture of data-driven instructional improvement.
Are you a child who enjoys reading? Help celebrate Smokey the Bear’s 80th birthday by joining the “Smokey the Bear Reading Challenge”. Join Smokey the Bear in learning about wildfires and nature by reading books, taking action, receiving prizes and having fun. The Silver City Watershed Keepers and the Grant County Community Foundation will be having a “Nature Discovery” summer camp for upcoming 4th to 6th graders in Silver City and Bayard with hiking, nature observation, water testing, field trips and much more. The camp in Silver City will take place June 10th-June 14th and June 17th-June 21st. The Bayard camp will take place June 24th-June 28th. The camp is free but prior registration is required. In Deming News:
The City of Deming is undergoing a project to replace water valves around different areas on the North side of the city. As a result, residents on the North side of Deming may experience periodic water outages. The project will begin today, May 7th and is expected to continue for the next 8 to 12 weeks. The Luna County Health Council and the youth-led organization, “You are not Alone” will be having a “Mental Health Awareness” fair with free activities, food, door prizes and more. The fair will take place on May 9th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Deming Cesar Chavez Charter High School in Deming. This event is free and open to the public.
