The Grant County Community Foundation and the Give Grandly Coalition would like to thank all the nonprofits, donors, and match fund sponsors who participated in and supported the Give Grandly event. The event successfully raised over $178,000 for 67 nonprofit organizations, including The Commons: Center for Food Security and Sustainability, El Refugio, Inc., Upper Gila Watershed Alliance, High Desert Humane Society, and the Gila Resources Information Project. The Town of Silver City Council will convene for its Regular Council Meeting this evening, May 13, at 6:00 p.m. at the Grant County Administration Center. The meeting agenda will cover several key items, including an update on fire restrictions, the introduction of a new billing and online payment system, and consideration of Bid 24/25-2 for Mill Road. Additionally, the Council will review and vote on Resolution 2025-16, which authorizes the submission of a grant application and supporting documentation to the New Mexico Department of Transportation for FY2025 electric vehicle infrastructure funding.
The Village of Columbus has announced the installation of a new monument at the U.S.–Mexico border in honor of the cyclists who ride the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR). While the official southern terminus of the GDMBR is located at Antelope Wells, Columbus has long served as a popular and welcoming waypoint for riders. The monument stands as a tribute to the endurance and spirit of GDMBR cyclists and celebrates the village’s important role in this iconic route.

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish has released the draft 2025 State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP) for public comment. This plan outlines the Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN) in New Mexico, along with their associated habitats, the threats they face, and recommended conservation actions to address those threats. Key revisions in the 2025 draft include a thorough review and update of the SGCN list, incorporating new data on species status and the inclusion of pollinating insects.
