The Western New Mexico University “One Stop” pantry, which provides food and other necessities to students, staff and faculty, has opened its second location at the WNMU Mimbres Learning Center in Deming. Although the pantry is set up similar to the original pantry at the Silver City campus, the center plans on providing more items to serve Deming students’ needs such as, items and meals that can be cooked not only in dorms but at home as well. The One Stop pantry is located in Room 131 of the Mimbres Learning Center and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Gila National Forest officials are requesting public comments and input on the Draft Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) Report for the abandoned mines located in the Silver City Ranger District, near Lordsburg. A draft EE/CA was prepared, where nine sites were evaluated and investigated to identify and evaluate cleanup alternatives to reduce the potential threat to human health and the environment from heavy metals contamination. The recommended action is Alternative 3, Excavation, On-Site Repository where mine waste material would be excavated and transferred to one of three constructed repositories. The comment period runs now and will conclude after 30 days. All written comments must be submitted by close of business on July 17th. Silver Consolidated School District has announced that the Fox Field Track is in its final stages and is just about complete. The white lines have been painted and cured and the track will soon be ready for students and the community to use. To help maintain the integrity of the new track, the district is asking the public to avoid walking their pets or placing heavy wheeled strollers or bikes on the track surface.

The New Mexico Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NMCADV) is hosting three focus groups in Hatch, Las Cruces and Anthony for survivors of intimate partner violence. NMCADV is looking for female-identifying survivors of intimate partner violence/domestic violence to share their points of view regarding the system in place to provide safety and create offender accountability. The feedback provided will be used to impact changes in the criminal justice and community-based systems.  Participants will receive a $250 Visa card, on-site licensed child care, and food/snacks.
