Spring marks the season when most wildlife young are born, prompting the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish to issue an important reminder to the public: do not approach, touch, move, or otherwise disturb deer or antelope fawns, elk calves, bear cubs, or other wild animals. To ensure the safety of both animals and people, individuals are advised to leave the area quickly and quietly, observe only from a safe distance without lingering, and never make physical contact. If an animal appears to be abandoned, observers should mark the location and report it to the nearest Department of Game and Fish office.
