New Mexico Magazine is having its 24th Annual Photo Awards competition for those interested in capturing the landscapes, street scenes and anything else that embodies the essence of New Mexico. The competition will feature seven categories that will focus on people, landscapes, animals, the New Mexico Experience, nightscapes, mobile photos and New Mexico’s Route 66. The 2025 photo awards submissions began July 1st and will run until September 15th. The winners will be revealed in the January/February 2025 issue of the magazine. In Grant County News:
In an effort to enhance patient care and address alcohol and substance abuse, hospitals across New Mexico, including Gila Regional Medical Center, are implementing the Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) program to their emergency departments. The program will help emergency department healthcare providers address alcohol and substance use issues early to help prevent more severe health problems in the future and will connect patients to the appropriate treatment resources in the community. Starting July 1st, Gila Regional Medical Center will be providing SBIRT services to help ensure early intervention and to offer support to patients at risk for alcohol and/or substance use.
During The Town of Bayard’s regular meeting, the council approved resolution 10-2024 to adopt the Grant County affordable housing plan. The plan will allow the Town of Bayard to work with other entities to help provide additional housing and repairs or build on existing homes. It will also help the economy by providing affordable homes to families and help revitalize the community.
Looking for something to do this evening? The Town of Hurley will be having its first free “Movies in the Park” tonight, July 2nd at 8:00 p.m. at A Street Park. They will be showing the movie “The Sandlot” and all community members are invited to come out, bring their chairs, blankets and snacks and come enjoy the movie.
Congratulations to Bayard Beautification Committee members Doug, Betty and Helen, who are part of the “Social Security Crew”, who won for the most trash collected during the Mining District “Cleaning Battle” that took place this weekend. All three members collected a total of 22 bags of trash from all over the Town of Bayard winning them each a $100 gift card.
