The Bayard City Council will hold a regular meeting at 4:30 p.m. on July 15 at Bayard City Hall. The council will consider a resolution to participate in the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s Local Government Road Fund Program for improvements to Steyskal Street, as well as a resolution establishing a stipend program for volunteer firefighters. Members will also consider approval of a contractor’s quote for renovations to the city animal shelter before opening the meeting for public input.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is seeking public input on a proposed multibillion-dollar natural gas pipeline that would cross southern New Mexico, including Luna County, as part of a project to transport natural gas from the Permian Basin to Arizona. The proposal includes more than 700 miles of new pipeline, compressor stations, and related infrastructure capable of moving about 2.3 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day. A public scoping session will be held in Deming on July 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mimbres Valley Special Events Center, where residents can ask questions and submit comments for the official record.
