Community members are invited to learn about the design options being developed for Fort Bayard at the Fort Bayard Revitalization Plan Community Workshop, which will be held on January 7 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business and Conference Center. Attendees will have the opportunity to share feedback, ideas, and their vision for the site as the Fort Bayard team continues refining a revitalization plan created with and for the community.

The City of Lordsburg has announced that its water system recently violated a drinking water requirement. The City’s fluoride removal system is currently out of service, and there are no plans to return the existing system to operation. Instead, the City of Lordsburg is pursuing an alternative treatment approach and is moving forward with replacing the outdated ion exchange fluoride removal system with a new reverse osmosis (R.O.) treatment plant. Grant County has announced the launch of TextMyGov, a modern and convenient text messaging service designed to enhance communication with residents. This platform provides the County with a centralized management portal to distribute mass notifications related to emergencies, community events, government closures, severe weather alerts, and other important updates. TextMyGov will also serve as the County’s new IPAWS Alert Origination Software Provider, ensuring the continued delivery of critical emergency alerts and messages. The system will officially launch to the public on January 12.

The Wilderness Ranger District of the Gila National Forest plans to conduct prescribed fire operations on Wednesday and Thursday, January 7 and 8, pending all required approvals. Planned activities include burning slash piles created from thinning work adjacent to private property in Cooney Canyon along the Rio Mimbres. These piles are located along Forest Road 150A, also known as Cooney Road, approximately six miles north of the Mimbres Valley. Operations are expected to continue through the month of January, as weather and conditions permit.
