During a Bayard City Council meeting, the City Clerk announced that the city will begin the process of readdressing this year due to ongoing difficulties faced by delivery and emergency services in locating residences. The council also approved a resolution to amend the city budget following the receipt of $58,000 from Freeport-McMoRan to support the development of a master plan and a nonexclusive 10-year franchise agreement with Comcast Cable Communications Management, LLC.

New Mexico Senate Bill 5 (SB 5), passed during the 2025 legislative session, established a $200 non-resident shed hunting license for individuals collecting more than two shed antlers, which went into effect earlier this month. Shed hunting will remain free for New Mexico residents and for non-residents who collect two or fewer shed antlers. The legislation also renamed the Game Commission as the Wildlife Commission and updated various hunting license fees, with those changes taking effect for the 2026 season.
