Harrison Schmitt Elementary School educators have partnered with Healthy Kids Grant County, students, and local collaborators to create an inspiring food forest across the school’s expansive 10-acre campus. This innovative project allows students to engage directly with nature, walking among apple, mulberry, and peach trees, and sampling fresh grapes and Egyptian walking onions. By combining hands-on learning with sustainability, the initiative not only enriches students’ educational experiences but also empowers students to grow their own food and gain invaluable insights into sustainable practices.
