The Gila National Forest is offering free wood chips at several designated locations throughout the forest. Chip piles can be found off New Mexico Highway 15 at the Ben Lilly Memorial parking area north of Pinos Altos, at the Meadow Creek Road turnout just south of milepost 15, and at the roadside pullout at Wildhorse Mesa. Additional piles are available off New Mexico Highway 35 in the Celebration Campground area. The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED), in collaboration with the LANL Foundation, will hold a public meeting on August 14 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business and Conference Center to discuss the Martinez/Yazzie Action Plan. This plan represents the state’s formal response to a landmark court ruling that found New Mexico had not fulfilled its constitutional obligation to provide a uniform and sufficient education for all students. Centered on five core areas identified by the court, the action plan aims to ensure equitable access to high-quality instruction as well as comprehensive academic, social, and behavioral support services.
